As the news of the Up Doon Express accident reached them, relatives of passengers on board the train rushed to Howrah station. While few lucky ones had come there after they contacted their relatives over the phone, many were clueless about the fate of their relatives. There was anger, anxiety and confusion as the helpdesk opened at the station by the Railways too could offer them little information.
Howrah resident Dinesh Mukherjee broke down at the helpdesk, unable to get any information about his father Basudeb, 69, mother Juthika, 55, and brother Subrata, 27. Desperation drove him to Howrah station from his Bhawanipore office in the hope of getting some information.
"I had spoken to my father around 8am. He said that everything was fine and was excited about the trip. I have been trying to call them for a few hours now but none of the numbers they are carrying is reachable. With the help desk here having no information on them, I feel all the more helpless. I only wish all three of them are fine. I do not know why their numbers are not reachable," said Mukherjee managed to utter before breaking down.

Rwanda: World Environment Day Celebrations Begin
In a bid to create wider awareness of environment concerns in the country, the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) has kicked off environment protection activities countrywide.
The weeklong activities began on the weekend in Gatsata Sector, Gasabo District, and are expected to conclude on June 6, which is the World Environment Day (WED), the Minister of Natural Resources, said yesterday at a news briefing.
"The most important goal of WED is to raise awareness about serious impacts to the environment caused by carrying out business as usual in terms of economic growth and development without environmental considerations, a behaviour which compromises sustainable development," Kamanzi, said.
Residents of Gatsata planted trees and rehabilitated wetlands, especially in areas, where garages used to exist.
"After that, we had a frank discussion about the challenges they face in regards to settlement and environmental protection," the minister added.
According to Rose Mukankomeje, the Director General of Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), various activities, including adoption of renewable energy, use of energy-saving cooking stoves, biogas and solar energy, will be introduced in some settlements that lag behind in adopting the techniques.
"We must continue sensitising the importance of greening in schools, office compounds and households; so that people better understand the reason why we desperately need to develop economically, while ensuring that our environment remains green and safe," Mukankomeje said.
World Environment Day is an annual event which is widely celebrated on June 5; since its introduction in 1972, WED has grown to become one of the main vehicles that stimulate awareness of the environment with calls for political attention.
Rowdy Rathore, the rest of the box office
Rowdy Rathore is heading for a huge opening when it opens on Friday it could even turn out to be the best opening weekend of the year. The single screen advance which opened on Monday was excellent across the country and the film will screen on around 2700 screens
The biggest opening weekends (1st 3 days) this year have been Agneepath (45.50 crore nett) and Housefull 2 (42 crore nett) and Rowdy Rathore has chances to beat both of these two films. The biggest Akshay Kumar openers are Housefull 2 and Tees Maar Khan (36.50 crore nett).
The 50 crore nett weekend is the number to crack but its never been done without a major holiday (Bodyguard – Eid, Ra.One – Diwali) so it may be out of reach for Rowdy Rathore. The biggest non holiday opening weekend is Ready at 42.25 crore nett which was released in the same week as Rowdy rathore last year.
Rowdy Rathore has fetched extraordinary prices all over India and has been sold in most circuits across the country.
