BAKU OFFICALLY HOSTS EUROVISION 2012 SONG CONTEST BAKU OFFICALLY HOSTS EUROVISION 2012 SONG CONTESTBaku, the capital city of east European country is the official host for the Eurovision 2012 Song Contest. The event officially kick-started here at the Buta Palcae of the city on Wednesday (25th January), after Lord Major Drik Elbers of Dusseldorf (Germany), host city of the previous year, handed over the symbolic key of the event to Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov.

The official slogan for this year’s contest is ‘Light Your Fire’ depicting sun.  Sun is the symbol of fire that has a significant place in Azerbaijani culture.  The night also saw some sparkling performances by the contestants.
Final of the contest will held in Baku on May 26th, after the semifinals round on May 22nd and 24th in the city too.  Notably, Azerbaijani duo Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) with their pop-ballad “Running Scared” won the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
