The Wooden bowl….

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and a four-year old grandson.
The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together nightly at the dinner table. But the elderly grandfather’s shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass often milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. “We must do something about grandfather,” said the son. I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor. So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the dinner table. Since grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. Sometimes when the family glanced in grandfather’s direction, he had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence.
One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, “What are you making?” Just as sweetly, the boy responded, “Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up.” The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took grandfather’s hand and gently led him back to the family table.
For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled. Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that every day that building blocks are being laid for the child’s future.
Let us all be wise builders and role models. Take care of yourself, … and those you love, … today, and everyday!

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha Entertain in Remake of Telugu’s ‘Vikramarkudu’

The pipeline between Bollywood and Tollywood has made for quite the wonderful exchange of actors who seamlessly switch back and forth between Hindi and Telugu. On the other side of the camera are directors, producers, and writers who are sometimes so blown away at what they have read or seen down South that they have to bring the story to its fan base. This weekend, yet another Telugu film has found a way into Bollywood cinemas, complete with Bollywood actors and Hindi dialog. That film is Prabhu Deva’s Rowdy Rathore, which stars Akshay “Akkie” Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha and is a remake of the 2006 blockbuster Telugu box-office hitVikramarkudu.

'Rowdy Rathore' on BuzzineBollywood.comAlready reincarnated in Tamil, Bengali, and Kannada,Rowdy Rathore arrived in Bollywood on June 1 with high expectations. Just like Tollywood’s VikramarkuduRowdy Rathore is expected to dominate the box office both this weekend and next. In typical Akshay Kumar fashion, there is no shortage of masala in Rowdy Rathore. As expected from Mr. Deva, Rowdy Rathore stays true to its Southern roots but still has its own charm and character that distinguishes it from all the other iterations of the modern classic. Rowdy Rathore is everything you want in a masala hit arriving in theaters and multiplexes on the heels of summer. In many ways, Rowdy Rathore lives, eats, and breathes all things Bollywood. It is a masala film worthy of carrying “Rowdy” in its title.

So what is so entertaining about Rowdy Rathore? For starters, there are the dance routines. Remember a time when Bollywood’s producers and directors cared about silly little love songs played out on screen by a Prince Charming innocently pursuing his demure yet vivacious leading lady, Western audiences be damned? Rowdy Rathore erases any need to be nostalgic. Add in a smorgasbord of colors, a simple plot, and the proverbial romantic scenery, what you have is an old school Bollywood film that is plenty fun to watch.

Never one to shy away from masala films, Akkie is his usually dhamaka self in a double role. Quite convincing as the dashing cop and the hardcore petty thief, Mr. Kumar actually delivers a memorable performance after a growing string of forgettable films. He seems to have also developed quite the chemistry with Ms. Sinha, who connects rather easily with the audience. The supporting cast is sure to draw quite a bit of laughter, perfectly complementing the star-studded duo.

The screenplay is solid, the cinematography excellent, and the narrative moves at a brisk pace. Come the second half,Rowdy Rathore really picks up. (It’s about time a Bollywood film does not let down after intermission!)

Quite the masala film, Rowdy Rathore is one of the most entertaining films of the year and features a little dose of everything. The action will keep you on the edge of your seat. The comedy will make you laugh. The drama will make you think. All in all, we recommend Rowdy Rathore.
