Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE)-2012
The Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE), introduced the Dept of English, University of Delhi in 2009, is a centralized test meant to evaluate a student’s aptitude for the study of B.A. (Hons) English offered by the University
Eligibility: Eligibility for CATE is as per the University rules of eligibility for admission to any B.A. (Hons) course
For calculating their aggregate marks candidates may use any one of the following subject combinations
English plus any 3 academic subjects (including languages); or
English plus 2 academic subjects (including languages) plus one vocational subjects
General category candidates should have a minimum of 45% marks in the class XII board examinations
OBC candidates (non-creamy layer) will be given a relaxation of 10% of the minimum eligibility marks prescribed for the General category candidates
The eligibility therefore would be 40.5% (10% of 45 subtracted from 45%)

Children/Widows of eligible Armed Forces personnel (CW) will be given a concession of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility requirement, these candidates should have scored 40% marks in their class XII board examinations to be eligible for appearing in CATE
SC/ST candidates and persons with disabilities (PwD) are exempted form CATE
Their admission will be s per the rules of the university
No round off is allowed in the aggregate marks

All candidates may need to submit other forms as required by the University of Delhi for admission to non-CATE college offering B.A. (Hons) English as well as for any other course
The CATE form is valid only for admission to B.A. (Hons) English in colleges participating in CATE
CATE-2012: CATE-2012 will be held on 09th June, 2012, Saturday, 11.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m.
The duration of the test will be 2 hours
CATE is designed to test a candidate’s aptitude for B.A. (Hons) English as a course of study, and to that end, it aims at evaluating language, grammar, and writing skills as well as general literary awareness
The question paper will consist of two part
Part-A will comprise multiple choice questions (MCQ) and Part-B descriptive answer type question (comprehension and essay/creative piece)
Students will attempt both parts in the same sitting
However, only the scripts of those students who qualify in Part A will have their Part B scripts evaluated
The final aptitude quotient, known as the CATE score, will be determined by collating the Class XII examination marks (best 4) and the CATE marks on a ratio of 30:70
A merit list of candidates will be made on the basis of such a collation
Separate merit lists will be prepared by the Department of English, University of Delhi for different categories (General and OBC) along with one consolidated merit list
The participating colleges will admit candidates to the course on the basis of cut-off points declared by them after the CATE scores are announced
Application Form: The OMR application form can be purchased at any one of the centres designated for the sale and receipt of forms from 25th May, 2012, Friday to 04th June, 2012, Monday by submitting a bank draft of Rs 350/- in favour of the Registrar, University of Delhi, drawn on any branch of the following banks
State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank
Please note that drafts from any of the subsidiary State Banks (State bank of Patiala, State bank of Mysore, State Bank of Travancore etc) will not be accepted
The drafts should be payable at Delhi
