A hot air balloon carrying 11 people caught fire and crashed, killing all of them, in New Zealand’s northern farming town of Carterton, 80 kilometers northeast of the town of Wellington.
Wellington Regional Commander Mike Rusbatch, approached the balloon soon after it fell down. He said that the pilot and 10 passengers died, adding that detailed information about the unfortunate event was yet to be collected.
Eyewitnesses said they saw flames leaping out of the balloon before it fell.
