Piaggio, the well known and the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in Europe unveils new Vespa for India.
The scooter, starting with a 125-cubic-centimeter model, will be launched in the country in April 2012 and would be available in 35 cities across the country.
The price of the vespa scooters could be around 60,000 rupees.
The company likes to leverage this feasible untapped market segment that shows tremendous potential for growth in the coming years.
This will be the first scooter venture of Piaggio in India without a local partner.
More than four decades ago, Piaggio licensed the production ofVespa scooters to Bajaj Auto Ltd.
The joint venture ended in 1971, and the company partnered with LML Motors Ltd. in 1983 to make and sell scooters in India.
It exited the venture in 1999, when LML acquired Piaggio’s stake
