Many instances of singers switching over from singing to acting can be seen and heard either on small screen or big screen. Deepali Kishore, a singer-anchor is no different. She was a participant of Sony’s “Indian Idol” Season Three and she made her acting debut with a lead role in Bhojpuri serial titled “Badki Malkayen” on Mahua TV.
Recently, she has got another break on Sahara One’s “Tujh Sang Preet Lagaayi Sajna”, where she has selected to play the role of Parul. She says that her selection for the role was a chance encounter after the casting director of the serial took her screen test and finalized her for the role.
She says that she was not at all prepared for the same, as she was just accompanying her friend to the studio, who had gone there for her auditions. It will be interesting to see if she can make a success of her new career, as the past experiences of singers who switched over to acting show, have met with little or no success.
Example being her co-host in ‘Indian Idol’ Season Four, Meiyang Chang, who after his debut movie “Badmaash Company”, is still awaiting for the next film to come his way. The same is the case with Abhijeet Sawant, the first winner of “Indian Idol”, who debuted in the movie “Lottery”, which failed to make any impact on the audiences.
Deepali justifies her switchover by saying that her first and foremost love will always be singing and it is just that she has giving herself a alternative career option. If a time comes where she has to choose between acting and singing, it will no doubt be the latter.
